Protect hills

Kudos to Save Mount Diablo for bringing to the attention of the city of Pittsburg and all concerned residents of central Contra Costa County the grading done in January by the Seeno Company in the Pittsburg hills abutting the Concord Naval Weapons Station.

All Concord's proposals for developing the weapons station include protection of hills and ridges. This development will be a bonus for all of central county.

The Seeno Company has in the past been fined $3 million for illegal grading by the Department of Fish and Game.

The destruction of creeks, hilltops and habitats for endangered species is permanent. The hilltops cannot be restored.

It is disturbing that Pittsburg looked into and decided not to pursue hillside development regulations. The property in question has experienced land slides at lower levels and the new grading is already showing signs of slides.

It is my understanding that legal action has already been taken against the Seeno Company by those who have bought houses in slide areas.

There is a serious lack of concern by that company and the city of Pittsburg for new and longtime residents who buy these homes.
